21 Weeks!

How Far Along? 21 Weeks as of Sunday
Total Weight Gain/Loss: +10 - definitely feeling bigger these days!
Baby Related Purchases: Since we found out that we are having a girl, we finally have a clue about what to buy! The two dresses on the right are the two that we bought at Target on the day we found out we were having a girl. The other stuff (some headbands, caps, 2 bibs, shorts, and lamb stuffed animal) is some gifts that Jason's co-workers got for him today!

We spent a lot of time (probably over 2 hours!) at Babies R' Us this past Saturday, officially registering for stuff for baby Lucy. It was quite an exhausting experience, but really fun too! However, it made me realize just how much stuff you need for a baby! We didn't register for everything that the "list" told us to, but I'm just now realizing that we might be spending quite a bit of money this summer!

Last week, I posted this photo as my inspiration for our nursery. Since our future is a bit up in the air right now,  we are trying to hold off on most purchases. However, when I found the perfect quilt to use in our future nursery on Etsy, we decided to go ahead and get it.

I also must have WAY to much free time on my hands (that, or I'm good at procrastinating...) because I even made this "Mood Board" on Olioboard that has helped me start planning what I would like in the room.

Stretch marks: Nope, but still got some itchy skin.
Sleep: Sleep pretty good, although it is really hard to not sleep on my back.
Movement: Feeling more movements these days. They are still pretty light, but more consistent. I love it when I feel her move! I think Jason even got to feel her a little bit this week too.
What I miss: Still missing having more variety in my wardrobe. Missing Advil - since my back starts hurting sometimes in the evening, and normally I just deal with it.
Cravings: Still have late night snack attacks, but this week you can combine it with mid-morning snack attacks! Basically, I feel like I eat all day long. Also, I'm starting to feel like the "fat kid" who thinks about food 24/7. I'm constantly thinking about food, what I can eat next, sad that I can't eat because I'm full, etc. It's kinda funny.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope!
Gender: GIRL! So excited :)
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: My back aches when I sit on the couch at night, so I've been propping this large, sturdy pillow behind me. Another clear symptom is eating more!
Belly Button In or Out? In
Happy or Moody most of the time:  Feeling happy this week that the ultrasound went well and that the baby is healthy!
Worries: I did some back extensions at the gym the other day, then started to freak out that maybe I had hurt little Lucy. Jason assured me that everything was probably fine, but told me that I needed to change up some of the stuff I was doing at the gym. Good-bye crunches!!!!
Best moments this week: It has been so long since I posted last (since I skipped Week 20). Two weekends ago we were busy hanging out with friends! On Friday night, we watched Footloose and had dinner (Chicken and Stuffing with yummy chocolate pie) with the Vaughans. The movie was so good, we decided to watch another 80's classic - Dirty Dancing on Sunday night. We cooked some Hawaiian Chicken with fresh pineapple and Butterscotch Bars - both were so good! On Saturday, we hung out with Elizabeth and Josh. We had some pizza together, hung out and talked, and got to play with their adorable little girl - Nora-Kate. We enjoyed Valentine's Day by finding out we were having a girl. On Wednesday, we had Bible Study and right afterwards went to Carrabba's for our belated V-day dinner. This past weekend was rainy and cold, and we spent most of it just relaxing and spending time together (+ some cleaning and some registering).
Looking forward to: Now that I know she's a girl, I think I have to wait 19 more weeks for the next big moment! I hope I can wait that long!
Size of Baby: Approx. the size of a banana.

What Baby's Up To: (from BabyCenter
Your baby now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the length of a banana. You may soon feel like she's practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges. You may also discover a pattern to her activity as you get to know her better. In other developments, your baby's eyebrows and lids are present now, and if you're having a girl, her vagina has begun to form as well.

Baby Baareman is a Girl!

It's a Girl!!!!!!!

We also think we have settled on a name: Lucy Marie Baareman. We have both liked the name Lucy from even before the pregnancy I think, but it has really grown on us over the past 20 weeks. It is short, simple, and easy to spell - since she will have to spell out "Baareman" for many years to come!

We are so excited to finally have found out what we are having! I was so excited for this past Tuesday's ultrasound I could hardly stand it! But, it completely lived up to my expectations. After working until about 1:00, I headed to the Doctor's Office and met Jason there. We didn't have to wait too long, and were called back into the same room that we had been in for my 8 week ultrasound. It was amazing to see how much growth and development can happen in just 12 short weeks! It really is such a miracle from God.

During the ultrasound, we got to see just about every inch of our little baby. Heart, lips, brain, liver, stomach, spine, head circumference, legs, arms, fingers, etc. Every part was measured and said to be "Just Perfect" - music to our ears! What a HUGE answer to prayer! She even looked at the umbilical cord, placenta, and other things to make sure everything was as it should be.

When she was about to scan around the legs, she asked if we wanted to find out what the gender was and we both said yes. Then she asked if we had any guesses. Jason looked at the screen and right away guessed "Girl" - even though we were both leaning more towards "Boy" up until the appointment. I guess he could make more sense of what was on the screen than me - because he was right! It was a surprise, but a good one. I have always wanted to have a daughter. Over the past two days, I have started to think about all the fun things we will get to experience as a family together, and I can't wait!

Here are all the shots that we got to take home with us. It is our first glimpse of what our daughter will look like. I wish I could get an ultrasound every day! I decided to just post all the photos - some of the labels help - sorry Lucy for showing your "Girl Parts" to the world!

19.5 Weeks!

How Far Along? 19 Weeks as of Sunday - so about 19.5 weeks right now.
Total Weight Gain/Loss: +9!!!!! I think me and the baby are both going through a growth spurt!
Baby Related Purchases: None this week. However, I have been doing lots of planning for what I'm going to buy....

Our future is a bit up in the air right now- given that Jason is currently job searching. That, combined with the fact that we don't know the gender yet has made me hold off on most purchases. Despite my elaborate pinning about "Baby Baareman" - our first child will probably have a pretty simple nursery. I like the idea of some simple bedding, and a cute quilt or window curtain to bring a pattern into the room.

Stretch marks: Nope, but REALLY itchy skin.
Sleep: I get up a LOT more in the middle of the night. Still sleeping okay most nights though.
Movement: I definitely think I have felt the baby move multiple times. However, it will move one day, and not the next. So not too consistent, leaving me to wonder (worry) why or why not.
What I miss: Being able to wear anything in my closet! Right now the pickings are slim to things that look good, feel good, etc. I've worn my poor pregnancy work pants TONS already. Maybe I'll get a new pair this weekend...
Cravings: I've been having a lot of late night snack attacks (like every night) of either cereal or my old stand-by (ritz crackers + honey/peanut butter & milk) YUM!
Anything making you queasy or sick: No - SO THANKFUL for this! After like 2 whole months of feeling not quite right, it is AMAZING to feel normal again!
Gender: Counting down the days! Only 5 more days of not knowing! Some crazy people have suggested we not find out and wait until the birth - NO WAY! I'm not a very patient person...
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: For the last few weeks I have felt some slight stretching/soreness in my stomach/abs area - for obvious reasons! I have to be careful to not move or stretch to quickly too. Also, I think that pregnancy has messed with my hunger sensers (is that a word)? Sometimes I will feel REALLY hungry, and eat a lot - then, about 30 min. later, I will feel like I ate WAY too much. Is this because the baby is already crowding my stomach?
Belly Button In or Out? In
Happy or Moody most of the time:  For the most part - happy. I have had a few emotional outbursts - but still can count those on one hand - so doing pretty good - right?
Worries: My whole life I have been terrified of the actual "birth" part of bringing a child into the world. Surprisingly, I haven't worried to much about that part so far. It still seems WAY off in the future. My worries still revolve more around the health/well-being of the child. But honestly, I'm feeling so thankful for the blessing that God has already given us with a healthy pregnancy so far :)
Best moments this week: Me and Jason went BACK to O'Charley's on Friday night - primarily because we had some coupons. I'm starting to like this "going-out-on-Friday-nights-thing" too bad it might ruin our budget...On Saturday we had AMAZING weather and went on a bike ride through some neighborhoods in Evans. We even got to walk through a near-finished house that was still under construction, which was fun. On Sunday, the weather was AMAZING again and I read outside and we went on a walk together. That night we enjoyed a Superbowl party with our small group and had some super delicious junk food.
Looking forward to: Gender reveal! Next Tuesday! I am so excited to find out. I will be super happy with either one. I just do feel like it will change out lives. If we have a girl, our future will be filled with prom, shopping trips, slumber parties, girl time, etc. If we have a boy, it will be full of sports, daddy-son bonding, etc. Both sound like fun to me!
Size of Baby: Approx. the size of a mango.
What Baby's Up To: (from BabyCenter
Your baby's sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don't be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you. Your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of a large heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Her kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

18 Weeks

How Far Along? 18 Weeks as of Sunday.
Total Weight Gain/Loss: +6!!!!! The weight gain has started to come on strong. I really can't understand this. I thought that in order to gain like 3 pounds in one week, I'd be eating like non-stop! Unfortunately, this hasn't been the case. I mean, yes of course I've been eating a little bit more, but there is NO way that I have eaten enough to have gained that much in one week. What's weirder, is that earlier in the pregnancy, I'd step on the scale absolutely convinced I had gained a few pounds, and I hadn't gained an ounce. I guess you can just add "weight gain" to to the list of things I don't understand about pregnancy!
Baby Related Purchases: Two more pairs of maternity pants from Motherhood Maternity. This is the only completely maternity store that I have found in Augusta. Jason and I were pleasantly surprised with the clothes (they weren't all ugly - some were actually cute!), the customer service, and the price tags! I got one pair of jeans and one pair of work pants in a light khaki color. For tops, I been wearing some long tanks from target and all the longer cardigans that I already own (but have never worn so much!) I can not wait until Feb. 14th when we find out the gender and I can run to buy our baby its first outfit! My mom also sent me two books that I have started reading. These are more to help AFTER the baby is born.

Stretch marks: Nope
Sleep: I get up a LOT more in the middle of the night. Still sleeping okay though.
Movement: I think that I felt the baby move for the first time a few days ago! Of course, I've been trying to see if I feel anything for the past few weeks, but one night right after bed, I put my hand on my stomach and felt a few little movements from the outside (I didn't feel the butterflies or movement from the inside that others have described). Here's hoping I feel more kicks (and harder ones) soon!
What I miss: Hot tubs and Margaritas - not sure that I have ever experienced this euphoric combo, but I started thinking this week that I would love it right about now!
Cravings: Pigged out on hot buttery rolls at O'Charley's this week with friends. And one night I really felt like Chick-Fil-A Chicken Strips on a salad. But other than that - all food is good to me.
Anything making you queasy or sick: No - SO THANKFUL for this!
Gender: Find out in two weeks! Still trying to decide on a name. We have it narrowed down, but I'm not sure if I'm confident enough to share it with the world, or if we should give it a little bit of time still.
Labor Signs: No
Symptoms: Gaining LOTS of weight. Seems like every time I step on the scale, I have gained a pound! Crazy!
Belly Button In or Out? In
Happy or Moody most of the time:  Before I was pregnant, it was pretty much known in my family that I have about zero patience about eating when I am hungry. This is often why I can't cook when i'm too hungry - because I will eat during the entire time that I'm cooking - then, when the food is cooked - I'm full! Well, now that I'm pregnant, the hunger pangs have been even more strong - as in diving into fries while they are still handing them to us over the Chick-Fil-A counter. haha.
Worries: This week I been thinking a lot (not so much worrying) about financially caring for our future child. What about childcare? What about paying off student debt while dealing with new costs associated with babies? The list goes on and on... still trusting God though. I know he has a perfect plan for us - just can't wait to see it unfold! :)
Best moments this week: Started Friday off with a bike-ride around our neighborhood, then dinner with Michael and Angelyn at O'Charley's topped off with Dairy Queen blizzards! On Saturday, we relaxed in the morning, I went to the gym (still feeling the effects of serious weight lifting for the first time in months!), ran errands, went the mall, then ended the day with the MAU annual party at the Marriott - which was super fun and involved a live band, good food, and dancing! On Sunday, we had our transition Sunday where about 4-5 couples were added to our Sunday School class at Warren Baptist Church! That night, we had pizza and game night with some friends - also lots of fun!
Looking forward to: Gender reveal! on Feb. 14th - any guesses? I'm like 50/50 right now.
Size of Baby: About the size of a bell pepper or sweet potato.
What Baby's Up To: (from BabyCenter
Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long (about the length of a bell pepper) and he weighs almost 7 ounces. He's busy flexing his arms and legs — movements that you'll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. His blood vessels are visible through his thin skin, and his ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around his nerves, a process that will continue for a year after he's born. If you're having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If you're having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, but he may hide them from you during an ultrasound.
